Experimental low-chair, 1997

  • Idea and design by Troels Grum-Schwensen
  • “One-offs” for SE97, executed by Egtved Pianofabrik.
  • Design: 1997
  • Publicized: 1997 (SE)

Seat and back are made with thin Aeroplan-veneer, manually bend before glued (seat) on assembled (back). Hereby comfortable seat-curves are achieved, without use of laminations, form-pressing or molds.

The curved shapes also add strength to the thin material.

The back is mounted by putting it through 3 slits in the seat and is held in place by wedges.

Angle-shaped legs and the aprons are made of either 6.5mm birch-plywood or – at another sample – thin stainless steel.

The experimental prototypes were exhibited at SE97.
